Guen is the cutest cat...

in

I sat down to draw Steven while he was reading something for homework. He kept moving, so I never got the angle right for his chin on his hand. And then Guenhwyvar decided to settle down on my arm that was holding my sketchbook. She's a cutie. And apparently much better at posing.

Steven and his homework again

in

I have a cute kitten on my lap, licking my arm as I write this. I better pet her.

More cake, and Josh

I don't have much to post since I can't post in-progress shots of my current painting. So, here's the by-request cake I did for my friend [Dr.] Sarah's thesis defense party:

It's Boris (of Rocky and Bullwinkle) with a Kisenian flower (from the Sailor Moon R Movie). It was everything she hoped it would be, and more.

And then I came home and drew Josh while he was practicing flipping coins in his fingers.

Rainy Gaming Afternoon

in

The rain kept us from taking photos, but allowed me to get some much needed r&r and paperwork done instead. My roommates played Dominion. I drew Stu, and then wanted to see if I could capture the bizarre angle of Steven's face from where I was sitting. I'll have to work on rendering his hair when it's this crazy.

I just noticed how different the image coloration is between these two and the first two on this blog. They're on the same paper, but I totally adjusted the colors differently when importing the photos (sometimes I don't compare with the actual sketchbook, other times the lighting in the room - natural vs bulb - effects how close I get). I wonder if there's anything I can set up in the Gimp that can allow me to color correct them more easily so that they match. I'm guessing not, though, as it also depends a lot on the lighting when I shoot them.

Sketchblog - Open!

I've been toying with starting a sketchblog for a while now, as a way to encourage me to draw on a regular basis. I started a fresh sketchbook in December, and also started attending my local Dr Sketchy's monthly life drawing sessions. I've got a few paintings to work on lined up, too. I'll use this blog to keep track of my progress by posting anything I've done that I feel worth sharing, and try to keep it as regular as possible.

Thanks a bunch to Steve, who did most of the work in setting up the software, and is still helping me work out the bugs (some pixel gaps in the template, and changes to the layout).

And here I'll start with Steven doing his homework, and Matt on the couch.
