IntroductionWelcome to my Sketchblog. I post here about once a week, everything from life drawing sessions, to random things I drew around the house, to ongoing personal projects (which might be painting related, or sewing related). User discretion is advised due to nature of life drawing (which tends to involve full or partial nudity). Unfortunately the comment feature of this blogging setup has been buggy of late. Feel free to e-mail me if the software won't let you post. Plushie DragonsAnother little project I've been doing is cards of stuffed animal dragons. These are to practice with the brush pen and quick watercolors, and to practice not focusing on every minute detail, letting imperfections slide.
I'm working on trying to give the little guys some personality, though it's hard to hold them in a pose and draw at the same time sometimes.
Peorth and MinagiI've been keeping up practicing copying manga imagery during those small chunks of time when it's not practical to break out the oil paints. I recently did Peorth, from Kosuke Fujishima's Oh My Goddess!, and Minagi from Masaki Kajishima's Tenchi Muyo!.
I'm learning more about how to control the Pentel brush pen I've been working with. While working on Peorth, I discovered that if I work slowly and my paper is horizontal, gravity pulls more ink than I want into the tip of my brush, making it difficult to create narrow lines without wiping (and wasting) ink on scrap paper. I ended up with wiggly lines in places I was trying to barely touch the brush to the paper, but it was too loaded. I tried to work on Minagi with a more vertical tilt to the paper, and felt I had much better results. BubbleBobble cakeAnd my other birthday art for this year:
BubbleBobble cake! I had a mishap with the original icing, which is why there are smudges, then I bought new icing and fixed it. Dr Sketchy's featuring Strawberry-Cream PieOh what a fun birthday weekend! I treated myself to an afternoon at Dr Sketchy's (something I've been missing due to working on Sundays and having no spare funds). I was feeling slow again, as a result of not getting to do this regularly enough.
I wish, especially, that I'd had more time for shading with the cute sailor outfit.
I tried the starting-with-white technique for the princess get-up, and liked the results.
